Postcards from Young America

Jason's trip notes from Portland to Savannah.

When I arrived in Savannah after nine hours of plane travel, I was “travel-worn.” I hadn’t shaved since LA (it wasn’t a very close), all my clothes were dirty, and I hadn’t had a shower longer than 90 seconds since I left. Worst of all, on the flight to the east coast, I got sick. It is nothing too serious - either a cold or allergies.

I grabbed a cab from the airport to my hotel, which was a first for two reasons: I hadn’t stayed at a hotel yet or taken a cab on my trip. I felt like a king. I was dropped off at the front door, checked in, and had a clean room all to myself.*

I slept for 10 hours, (which was how much I slept the last two nights combined) ignored the house keeping staff, showered for 15 minutes, used the complimentary shaving kit, scored free breakfast, and then sat on the bed watching HBO. I was reborn.

Now, two days later, I am exhausted again. I’m sitting in a soft queen bed on Tybee Island, GA. It is 8:30 PM here and 5:30 PM back home. I should be wide awake, but I’m falling asleep. It must be the sickness because I haven’t been as active as the first week of my trip.

I’ve been busy and it’s hard too post as often as I would like. I’ll try to get back into the habit for tomorrow and Monday.

*I really need to thank my mom again for getting me a hotel room.
